Donna M. Shaw, 92, of Emporia, Kansas, died on Monday, July 23, 2012 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.

The daughter of Joseph J. and Cornelia Phillips Schmidt, Donna was born on August 27, 1919 in Emporia, where she was the first baby born at St. Mary’s Hospital. She married Walter E. Shaw on November 12, 1938 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe, Kansas. He died on October 7, 2002 in Emporia.

Surviving family members include: son, W. Irving Shaw, and wife Brenda, of Emporia; grandchildren, Lisa Hafliger of Manhattan, Kansas, Kimberly Shaw of Merriam, Kansas, Kristen Shaw of El Dorado, Kansas,and David Shaw of Overland Park, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Mason and Avery Hafliger of Manhattan, Logan Shaw of Overland Park, and Kynzie and Kru Sanchez of El Dorado.

She is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Shaw; brothers, Leonard, Norbert, Raphael, and Wilfred Schmidt; and sisters, Leona Hagemann, Lorene Murphy, Doris Richardson, and Eileen Wiederhold.

Donna worked for Superior Wholesale in Wichita, Kansas, Greenwood Abstract in Emporia, and then she was a homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, the Alter Society of the church, Extension Sunflower Unit, and Birth Right of the church.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Father Ray May. The Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening, July 25, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia.
