A.J. “TONY” TURNER, 59, a resident of Emporia, Kansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

Anthony J. Turner was born in Newton, Kansas on July 4, 1954, the son of Robert V. and Frances (Walsh) Turner. He married Jalene Day in Emporia on September 9, 1995. She survives of the home.

He is also survived by his mother, Frances, Marion, Kansas; sons, Adam Turner, Topeka, Kansas, and Matthew Day, Boise, Idaho; brother, W.R. Turner, Lincolnville, Kansas; sister, Sandy Sloan, Willow Springs, Missouri; and his granddaughter, Grace Lynn Turner, Topeka.

His father, Robert, died earlier.

A.J. was a member of West Side Baptist Church, Emporia, and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way. He was employed by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a locomotive crane operator for 40 years. A.J. grew up in Marion, Kansas, and moved to Emporia in 1995.

Funeral services will be at West Side Baptist Church, Emporia on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at 10:30 A.M., conducted by Pastor Kenneth Armstrong of the church. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Marion Cemetery, Marion, Kansas.

The family will receive friends at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, Friday evening, October 4, 2013 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
