Alan Jordan Barraza passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri after a long and courageous fight with cancer. He was 35 years old.
Alan was born on October 30, 1989, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Francisco Barraza and Michelle (Bruington) Barraza. He married Rachel (Helmke) Barraza on July 11, 2015, in Topeka, Kansas.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, his grandfather, Terry Bruington, and his grandmother, Barbara Bruington.
Alan is survived by his wife Rachel Barraza, and daughter, Lena Barraza. Other surviving family members include brothers Tarren (Brooke) Kalapis, Idaho; Ariel Hernandez, Arizona; sister Luciana Barraza, Mexico; and grandmother Tonya Barraza, Arizona. He is also deeply loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends across the U.S.
Alan graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. He was an active member of Beta Sigma Psi, the Lutheran fraternity, during his college years and as an alumnus. Alan worked at nuclear power plants in Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, and Burlington, Kansas, before joining Honeywell Federal Manufacturing in 2019. There he managed critical work for our nation and helped to insure its safety. During his time at Honeywell, Alan was awarded Honeywell Outstanding Engineer for 2020.
Alan enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, cooking, all types of music, sharing dad jokes, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs. Alan loved being surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed bringing everyone together to celebrate any and all occasions, usually by smoking some meat. He never met a stranger, and it was impossible to not be drawn in by his charm. He enjoyed life to the fullest, never letting an opportunity for a new experience pass him by. But the one thing that Alan cherished most was being a husband to Rachel and father to Lena.
Alan was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Ottawa, Kansas.
