Alan Dean Mount (98) went to heaven on January 15, 2018, to continue the dance with his first and only love, Rita Kelly Mount. It was a true love story from the first time he saw her in a canary yellow dress at a dance in New York before he was shipped off with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Born on April 29, 1919, in Fredonia, Kansas, Alan was the fifth of nine children born to Bessie and Tracy Mount. His youngest sister, Helen, is still living.
After serving his country, Alan married Rita on June 16, 1946, in New York. They started their life together in Emporia, KS, where he worked for the Santa-Fe Railroad for 37 years until his retirement in 1979. They were active members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and together they raised three daughters at their Emporia home— Kathleen Luedtke (Mark), Marguerite Brown (Don), and Lynn Fiehler (Mike). Rita and Kathleen preceded him in death.
Alan was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, which he joined in September 1951, and was the oldest living member. He was a family man who loved a good game of golf, or watching “his boys” play at the American Legion baseball field. Not only did he support his local teams, but Alan was also a big supporter of Hospice. He was a proud grandfather of five, and great-grandfather of seventeen.
Although he will be missed, Alan has gone to join our Heavenly Father in eternal peace. Family and friends will celebrate the life he shared with those he knew and loved. The rosary will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, January 19, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father John Cordes, Celebrant. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Military Graveside Honors will be presented by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Memorials to the Knights of Columbus may be sent to Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
