Albert Frank Ziesmer of Emporia died on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Newman Regional Health. He was 78.
Al was born on September 7, 1945, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the son of Ernest and Alberta Ziesmer. He married Virginia Smirl on November 10, 1966, but later divorced.
Surviving family members include his daughters, Mary Frith of Sachse, Texas and Dr. Anne Elizabeth Ziesmer of Oceanside, California; grandchildren, Adam Ziesmer, Otto Torrens, Lilly Frith, and Jack Frith; great-grandson Jackson Ziesmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son Joseph Ziesmer and a brother and sister.
Al served in the United States Army for 3 years. He later was an Electrician and worked at Emporia State University for 45 years. He also owned and operated Al’s Electric in Emporia. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Emporia.
Al donated his time and money to very worthy causes through his later years. He was very generous to all animal rescues and veteran programs. He bought school supplies for several schools benefiting students and teachers. He bought equipment that schools need to improve the quality of learning.
He donated to help with upgrades to the church. He gave a variety of food every month to their food pantry.
He donated his time to Habitat for Humanity. He spent his time wiring houses for well-deserved families.
Cremation is planned with no services. Memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Food Pantry can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
