Alfred W. “Alf” Parks, 78, Rural Emporia, Kansas, passed away at his home Saturday, August 19, 2017.
Alfred was born October 16, 1938 at Cedar Point, Kansas, the son of G.W. “Pat” and Laura M. Sayer Parks. At an early age he moved, with his parents to Ellinor, KS, where his father was foreman for Crofoot Cattle Ranch. He attended 1st and 2nd grades at Ellinor and at Saffordville after the schools consolidated. Mr. Parks drove a truck for most of his adult life. He retired from Dolly Madison Bakery on December 31, 2003.
He was preceded in death by his son, Mica Lee, his parents, five sisters; Marjorie Parks, Brown, Joyce Parks Richards, Phyllis Parks Zumbrun, Mary Jane Parks McCleary, and Su Parks, four brothers; George Junior Parks, William L. “Bill” Parks, Dale E. Parks, and Harold L. “Casey” Parks.
He is survived by his wife, Anita, of the home, and a grandson; Cale Parks, Emporia.
Mr. Parks served in the U.S. Army from September 1961 to August, 1966, stationed in Betnigarten, Germany. He was a member of Lowry-Funston Post #1980, V.F.W. and Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion, and Emporia Masonic Lodge #12.
Cremation is planned. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hillside Cemetery, Toledo, Kansas. The service will be conducted by Pastor Marilyn Christmore, Saffordville United Methodist Church.
