Alice Bernice Conrade, 82, passed away, April 25, 2015 in Emporia, Kansas.
Alice was born November 20, 1932 in Happy, Texas, to Carl Hugo and Alice Lorena Bauer Fehr. Her family moved to Lyon County in December 1933 where she lived the remainder of her life, graduating from Neosho Rapids High School in 1950.
She married Albert Mathias Conrade of Olpe, Kansas on November 20, 1951. She and Albert farmed southwest of Olpe, then operated a dairy farm west of Emporia. They then moved back to the Olpe community and farmed for nine years before moving to Emporia in the spring of 1964.
Alice worked as a nurse aid at Newman Hospital then stayed at home to raise her three sons. After the boys were in school she worked at Winter Furniture, USD 253 serving meals at Walnut School, New Process Laundry, and Thomas Transfer before starting a home cleaning service.
She also served in various volunteer positions with Mary Herbert Elementary School, Cub Scout Packs 109 and 165, Sojadi District of the Boy Scouts of America, American Cancer Society, and Grace United Methodist Church. While serving with Sojadi District she was one of the first two women to receive the Award of Merit.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband; four brothers, Orval, Marvin, Gilbert, and Wilford; and sister, Wilma Schueler.
Alice is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Russell (Teresa) Conrade, Floyd (Becky) Conrade of Emporia, Clayton of El Dorado, Kansas and former daughter-in-law, Susan Conrade of Topeka, Kansas; her grandchildren, Aaron (Ashley) Conrade of Emporia, Amanda Conrade of Topeka, and Sasha and Haven Conrade of Emporia; brother, Melvin (Sandy) Fehr; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Fehr of Emporia, Agnes Fehr of Nevada, and Treva Fehr of Topeka; and several nieces and nephews.
Her hobbies included writing poetry, collecting post cards, and communicating with various pen pals.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Daniel-Brey conducting the service, assisted by Rev. Theodore Inman. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Roberts Blue Barnett Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, April 28, 2015.
Memorial contributions to Johnson Cancer Research Center at KSU, Hand in Hand Hospice, or Grace United Methodist Church may be sent in care of the funeral home.
