Alvena Ahrens Williams, Emporia, Kansas, went home to be with her Lord on August 27, 2010.
Alvena Helen Ahrens Williams was born September 7, 1931 in Alamos, Colorado to Alfred and Helen Jussel Ahrens. The Oldest Child, she grew up in the McCook, Nebraska area. She went to grade school in McCook. She moved to St. Francis, Kansas where she started high school. Alvena met her husband, Lyle F. Williams and was married to him on August 4, 1948 at Saint Francis.
They made their home on a farm 7 miles southwest of Saint Francis for several years, later moving to a ranch southeast of Goodland, Kansas. They lived in several places through the years, ending up in Lincoln, Nebraska for about 12 years. Moving from there to Emporia in June, 1972, where they have made their home.
Alvena was a housewife working out of the home only one year as a maid in the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska. She ran a day care for many years, taking care of over 300 children in her home.
She was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed by all of her loved ones.
Alvena leaves to mourn three daughters and one son. Frances Statler and her husband, Gary, Lincoln, Nebraska; Gail Lewis and husband, Richard, Emporia, Kansas; Michael Williams and wife, Eileen, Lamont, Kansas; and Janette Williams of the home.
She is also survived by six sisters and one brother: Lois Adams, Pratt, Kansas; Erma Nikkila, Urbana, Missouri; Sandra Price, Indianola, Iowa; Susan Barnes, Bremerton, Washington; Carol Allen, Grand Island, Nebraska; Debra Camargo, Red Bluff, California; and brother, Dwight Ahrens, Bremerton, Washington; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 2:30 P.M. at the Reading Baptist Church, Reading, Kansas. The service will be conducted by Rev. William B. Kneisly, Blue Stem Baptist Association. Interment will be in the Reading Cemetery, Reading, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Emporia, Monday evening from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
A memorial has been established with the elevator fund of the Webster Conference Center, Salina, Kansas, with gifts sent in care of the funeral home.
