Alvin A. Vogts, 95, of Olpe, Kansas, died October 7, 2012 at Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia, Kansas.

Alvin was born November 20, 1916 in Canton, Kansas, the son of Pete & Lena (Wendte) Vogts. He married Ella D. Hinrichs at Zion Lutheran Church, west of Olpe, on August 6, 1939. They enjoyed 70 years together, until her death on October 28, 2009 in Emporia.

He is survived by: son, Warren Vogts of Erie, Kansas; daughter, Janice Gibson of Emporia; five grandchildren, Jeff Vogts, Bruce Vogts, Chris Vogts, Jason Birk and Jennifer Wells; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Ella; a sister, Helen Miller; and his parents.

Alvin was a farmer. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, where he was a church elder. He was also a member of the Farm Service Agency, Crime Stoppers, Lyon County Water District #3, and caretaker of Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 11, 2012, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Emporia, and conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church. Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, west of Olpe.

A Visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
