Andrew G. Spencer

After months of declining health, Andrew G. Spencer, a life-long resident of Emporia, Kansas, quietly slipped away in Newman Hospital on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the age of 76.

He was born in Emporia the son of Ober Jacob and Lois Pauline (Guyton) Spencer, both deceased, on October 27, 1949.

Despite facing the challenges of autism and macular degeneration, he was determined to live an independent life and pursued his many interests. After graduation from high school, Andy attended the College of Emporia, and became active in local chess clubs, photography clubs, and was a member of Emporia Presbyterian Church. He was an avid bicyclist, frequently riding all over Lyon County and beyond. Andy was fluent in French, passionate about classic literature and music, played a variety of instruments, and enjoyed travel – especially by train.

Andy was a kind man who will be missed by his many surviving cousins and friends.

The memorial service to honor Andy’s life will be held at Emporia Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Phyllis Stutzman officiating.
