Jo Bitler, 87, Emporia, Kansas, died at Holiday Resort in Emporia on Monday, January 19, 2015.
Anita Joyce “Jo” Cuadra was born in Homewood, Kansas on June 27, 1927, the daughter of Benjamin Samuel and Florence Katherine (Silverthorne) Cuadra. She married Daniel VanTress Bitler June 18, 1949 at Emporia. He passed away March 30, 1982.
Surviving family members include: daughter, Katherine J. (Dan) Hamman, Americus, Kansas; sons, Dan L. (Diane) Bitler, Burlington, Kansas, Lee A. (Nancy) Bitler, Shawnee, Kansas, Fred D. (Peggy) Bitler, Bennington, Kansas, and Gene H. Bitler, Springfield, Missouri; former daughter-in-law, Anna Symmonds (Wayne), Emporia; brother, Spence Cuadra, Hemet, California; sisters, Virginia Ast, Kansas City, Kansas and Jeannine Darnell, Bass Lake, California; grandchildren, Kristi Davies, Kelly Hamman, Kim Bitler, Kari Webb, Rebecca (Chris) Hamman-Hernandez, Kayla (Shawn) Lucca, Jessica (Ronnie) Bruce, David (Alex) Hamman, Trey Bitler, and Shane (Dara) Bitler; and great-grandchildren, Walker Davies, Christian Solano, Nicholas Solano, Zy Solano, Garrett Smith, Eli Grow, Jordan Webb, Rylee Webb, Lily Bruce, and Emma Hernandez.
Jo was employed by the Santa Fe Railway, Crawford Manufacturing, and Dolly Madison Bakery/Interstate Brands as a Supervisor on the donut line, until she retired in 1990.
Her earlier years in Madison, Kansas, she and her husband, Dan, enjoyed many hours of quail hunting together. She was also an avid fisherman. She had a seasonal home near Roaring River, Missouri, where she spent the majority of her retirement trout fishing.
Funeral services will be Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Pastor Rob Clausen, Chaplain for Hand In Hand Hospice will conduct the service. Cremation will follow.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening, January 23, 2015 from 7:00 until 8:00 P.M.
