Arthur David Selves, Jr., Emporia, Kansas, passed away at Stormont-Vail Medical Center, Topeka, on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the age of 85.
Arthur “Art” Selves was born at Saffordville, Kansas on September 25, 1930, the son of Arthur David (Sr.) and Ruby Irene (Hulett) Selves. He married Doris Virginia Wessell June 7, 1953 at Emporia, Kansas. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2003. Doris died May 4, 2010.
Surviving members of the family include his three sons, David Selves, Emporia, Gary (Penny)Selves, Wichita, KS, and Michael (Cindy Hemmer) Selves, Papillion, NE; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, parents, and sister, Dody Peterson.
Art was a graduate of Toledo Township High School in Chase County, Kansas. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. After returning from the service he worked for Montgomery Wards, Crofoot Ranch, and retired from Pepsi Cola after 20 years of service.
He was a member and past master of Emporia Masonic Lodge #12, A.F. & A.M. and Jomaria Chapter #378, Order of the Eastern Star, Saffordville. He was active with the Emporia Alzheimer’s Support Group, and a lifetime member of the Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, Emporia.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at the Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church. The service will be conducted by The Rev. Dinah Dutta, Ph.D. of the church. A masonic service will be held at the church. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Saffordville, Kansas with military honors conducted by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The family will receive friends at the church Tuesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
