Arthur Rathke, Jr.

Arthur Rathke, Jr., 87, of Emporia, Kansas, and formerly of rural Olpe, Kansas, died on November 16, 2011 at Newman Regional Health, Emporia.

Arthur was born October 23, 1924 on the family homestead south of Olpe, the son of Arthur F. Sr. and Irmyle Pauline Paige Rathke. He married Ruth W. Homewood and later divorced. He then married Lillian I. Price on February 8, 1969 in Great Bend, Kansas; she died on July 31, 2002 in Emporia. On December 15, 2010, he married Judy Andrews-Balding in Emporia. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include: daughter, Renita Rathke of Emporia; stepdaughters, Jana Vogel of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jill Lorenzana of Emporia; stepsons, David Bowman of Topeka, Kansas, Jim Balding of Emporia, and Jace Balding of Osage City, Kansas; grandson, Dereck Rathke of Emporia; six step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry L. Rathke of Olpe; and a sister, Florence Sloan of Lawrence, Kansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his second wife.

Arthur worked for Kansas Soya Products and as a farmer/rancher for 60 years. For the last nine years, he was a driver for Spic ‘N Span/Scotch Cleaners in Emporia. For many years he was the caretaker for Line Cemetery in Rural Madison.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Line Cemetery, Madison, Kansas. The service will be conducted by Pastor Laura Burnett of the Ebenezer Methodist Church. The visitation will be Friday evening, November 18, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
