BENJAMIN FRANKLIN “BEN” WHITTREDGE, 92, Emporia, Kansas, died Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 28, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated by Father Brandon Farrar of the church. Interment will be in the Admire Cemetery, Admire, Kansas. Military Honors rendered by U.S. Navy, Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The Rosary will be recited at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Sunday evening at 6:00 P.M.

Ben Whittredge was born in rural Admire, Kansas on August 27, 1923, the son of Roscoe “Ross” and Edna (Rapley) Whittredge. He married Leona Marie Brown December 27, 1949 at Emporia, Kansas. She died January 7, 2010.

Surviving family members include sons; John R. Whittredge (Nina), Emporia, KS, Donald L. Whittredge (Beth), Hutchinson, KS, and James R. Whittredge (Dorothy), Allen, KS. Grandchildren; Kelly M. Whittredge Strohman (Shawn), Windsor, CO, Benjamin L. “Ben” Whittredge (Amy), Hutchinson, KS, Erin Whittredge-Smith (Jay), Wichita, KS, Adam Whittredge, Denver, CO, Sarah Whittredge-Beaudoin (Nick), Castle Rock, CO, Bridget Whittredge, Denver, CO. Great-grandchildren; Alexa & Walker Strohman, Alexis, Lily, William, Cecelia Whittredge, Jack, Cameron, & Cora Smith, Brooks & Palmer Beaudoin.

He was preceded in death by his spouse, Leona, and a grandson, Matthew B. Whittredge.

Mr. Whittredge was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy, and was a member of Moreland-Edmunds-Clayton Post #389, Allen, Kansas.

Memorials have been established with the Matthew Blaufuss Whittredge Scholarship Fund at Circle High School, Towanda, Kansas or the Moreland-Clayton-Edmunds Post #389, Allen, Kansas.
