Bertha Mae (Davis- Metcalf) Kelly

Bertha was born on March 20th, 1923 to Charles Burgess Davis and Emma Klem Davis in Emporia, KS.  She married George Metcalf in Leavenworth, KS on August 9, 1942.  S/Sgt. Metcalf was killed December 27, 1944 in the battle of the Bulge in Belgium.  She married Vernon Kelly on June 25, 1946 in Emporia, KS.   Mr. Kelly passed away on November 5, 1993.

She graduated from Emporia High School in 1941.  Mrs. Kelly was a homemaker most of her life.  However, she worked for a short time for the Modern Market and Emporia Meat Specialist.  She was a member of the First Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxillary, the American Legion Auxillary Post 5, and the Gold Star Wives of America.  She was also a volunteer for the Red Cross Blood Mobile.

Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers: Homer Davis of Eagle Rock, MO and Bernard Davis who was killed in France on September 27, 1944.  Her sister, Marjorie Kirsch of Kansas City, KS also preceded her in death.  She is survived by her son Dennis Kelly of Emporia, KS and her daughter Karen Kelly of El Dorado Hills, CA, and a niece and nephews.

Services will be at held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM.  There will be a viewing one hour prior to the ceremony.  No graveside services will be held.

In lieu of flowers, you may contribute to the First Christian Church of Emporia, KS, the American Legion Auxillary, or the VFW Auxillary. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
