Bessie Belle Phillips Edmiston (95) of Americus, Kansas, passed away Monday, June 6, 2011 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas.
Bessie B. Brewer, the daughter of Guy and Elda Ethel (Blossom) Brewer, was born December 2, 1915 at Baudette, Minnesota. She married Willard L. Phillips on March 6, 1937 in Marion, Kansas. He died February 21, 1985. She later married Dale Edmiston on April 16, 1995 in Emporia. He survives of the home.
Other surviving members of the family include: two daughters, Ann Spade of Admire, Kansas, and Betty Brown of Americus; eleven grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Bessie was preceded in death by: her parents, Guy and Ethel Brewer; her first husband Willard L. Phillips; two sisters, Mae Rask and Elsie Adolphson; one brother, Robert Brewer; and one granddaughter.
She had been an elementary school teacher for 35 plus years in various rural schools and Americus Elementary School. She was a member of the Americus United Presbyterian Church, the 84 Club, and the 72 Club, both in Americus.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 17, 2011, at Americus United Presbyterian Church. The service will be conducted by Pastor Kim Benson of the Admire United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Americus Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
