Betty Ann Campbell

Betty Ann Campbell, February 27, 1931 – September 9, 2026, died at the age of 95. Her parents, Frances Connett Campbell and William Harry Campbell, brothers Everett Campbell and Howard Campbell, and several nieces and nephews predeceased her, She is survived by her partner, Margaret Davidson, the children she helped raise, Paul Davidson, Timothy (Jessica) Davidson, and Sarah Davidson Murphy (Ryan), grandchildren Blake and Bryson Murphy, and several cousins and great nephews and nieces.

Betty was born in Bethany Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. She earned Bachelor and Master degrees at Emporia State University and did doctoral work at Colorado State. She taught junior high language arts in Chanute before coming to teach at Roosevelt High, Butcher Children’s School and as an Assistant Professor at ESU. She is fondly remembered by her students.

Betty was an avid volunteer for many years tutoring those who wanted to learn to read, and cutting out hundreds of lap robe blocks, clothing protectors, wheelchair pedal bags, walker bags, burp cloths, receiving blankets, and baby quilt blocks.

Betty was an active member of Emporia Presbyterian Church, singing in the choir the Sunday before she passed. She was a past president of the League of Women Voters, served on the Recycling Board, and belonged to professional organizations. Betty was passionate about protecting the environment and loved to spend time working without harmful chemicals in her very large yard. One of her favorite things was to visit a special place in Colorado to sing around the campfire and go hiking on the Front Range. Betty loved poetry and literature.

Memorial Services will be held at Emporia Presbyterian Church on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. Family and friends may gather one hour prior to the service for a time of sharing. Cremation is planned.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the church with contributions sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas. which is in charge of arrangements.
