Betty A. Geiger, 86, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 1, 2013 at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.
Betty Anne Lary, the daughter of William “Bill” and Mae (Morris) Lary, was born November 22, 1926 in Emporia. She joined the U.S. Army in 1954 and served in several countries all over the world.
After leaving the military, she worked as a telegraph operator for the Union Pacific Rail Road, a nurse’s aide for home health care, and was an accountant. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Olpe, Kansas, and was also a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1980 Auxiliary.
Betty is survived by: one son, Norman and and his wife, Connie Geiger of Emporia; a daughter, Susan Geiger of Emporia; six grandchildren, Ryan Barger of Emporia, Jacob Barger of Morgantown, West Virginia, Caleb Barger of Shenzhen, Guandong, Amber Lopez of Topeka, Kansas, Abby Geiger of Olpe, Carlie Geiger of Emporia; and four great-grandchildren, Alyssa Barger, Reagan Geiger, Jacob Lopez and Johnny Lopez.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The Rev. Mark Somerville of Harden Hospice will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to either, Harden Hospice or the All Veterans Memorial, may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
