Betty Lou Gibb, 98, died Saturday, September 27, 2014, at the Osage
Nursing Center, Osage City, Kansas.
Betty was born on December 6, 1915, in Virgil, Kansas, the daughter of Glen Dalton and Clara Augusta Wiggins Rose. She married Donald Ray Gibb on September 18, 1938 in Eureka, Kansas. He died on April 3, 2002, in Emporia.
She is survived by: son, Gary Gibb of San Clemente, California; daughter, Gayla
Bazil and husband Ken of Emporia; sister, Martha S. Patterson of Georgetown, Texas; three grandchildren, David Thomas, Minden, Nevada, Aimee Filipponi, Fountain Valley, California and Briant Gibb, Reno, Nevada; two step-grandchildren, Lyn Blubaugh of Madison, Kansas, and Austin Bazil of Lincoln, Nebraska; and five great-grandchildren, Matthew and Cody Thomas of Nevada, Gavin and Grayson Filipponi of California, and Aaron Gibb of Reno.
She is preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Donna Lou Gibb; and a
sister, Margaret Greenlee-Hoover.
Betty grew up in Eureka, Kansas and graduated from Eureka High School. She attended two years of Business School in Emporia and worked in the Treasurer’s Office at the Greenwood County Courthouse for several years.
In later years, Betty worked part-time during tax season at the Lyon County Courthouse in Emporia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Emporia, United Methodist Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Entrepreneur Club, and the Fortieth Farmerettes. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and enjoyed her family, especially the grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 3, 2014 at
Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. Visitation will be Thursday evening, October 2, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
