Betty L. Matson, 90, of Emporia, died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Horizon Plaza.


Her graveside service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Toledo Cemetery on the Lake Kahola Road. The Reverend Dinah Dutta Ph.D. of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Memorial donations to the Horizon Plaza may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.


Betty Lou Smith the daughter of Boyd T. and Jenny Faye Logstan Smith was born January 27, 1927 in Emporia. She married Barney E. “Bud” Lehnherr on May 25, 1947 in Ft. Scott. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1968. She later married Vernon E. Matson on February 9, 1969 in Emporia. He died on January 18, 2011.


Betty had worked for Hallmark Cards and was a Nurse’s Aide at Newman Hospital. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, volunteered at the Emporia Senior Center, delivering Meals on Wheels, and was an Honorary Lifetime member of the P.T.A.


Betty is survived by a son, Barney E. Lehnherr, Jr. of Haysville: a daughter, Pamela Gull of El Dorado; two step sons, Wes Matson and Larry Matson both of Emporia; two step daughters, Maryanna Mayer of Spokane, WA, and Gretchen Woodfield of Littleton, CO; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
