Betty Jean Notson, 88, passed away February 27, 2014 at her home in Emporia, Kansas. Betty was born July 20, 1925 in Dunlap, Kansas to James D. and Bessie Adam, who preceded her in death.
She attended Kansas State Teachers College and is an alumna of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. She married Raymond P. Notson on February 11, 1945. She devoted her life to her husband and their five children. Ray preceded her in death in 2001.
Betty and Ray enjoyed traveling during his 23-year career with the Navy. The couple lived in Emporia since 1969 where she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.
She remained involved with her extended family and was a devoted mother figure to many generations. The family has countless fond memories of times spent together.
Betty is survived by her five children, Steven (Louise) Notson of St. Louis, MO, Pamela J. Humphreys of Overland Park, KS, Rick Notson of Houston, TX, Becky (Ron) Hanson, of Emporia, and Marc Notson of Emporia. There are also eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Betty had five siblings: the late Jim Adam, Mary Smiley, June Collins, Dick Adam, and Peggy Morgan.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Meeting Room 110 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice or Alpha Sigma Alpha Housing Corporation may be sent in care of the funeral home.
