Betty Jean Allen Rathke, 88 of Emporia, Kansas died Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
Betty was born April 29, 1928 in rural Greenwood County, Kansas the daughter of Paul W. and Grace E. (Haughton) Allen. She worked as an insurance clerk at Newman Hospital for 20 years until her retirement in 1985. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emporia, Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion Auxiliary and past president. She was very active in the Republican Party, served on the election board locally, was a volunteer for the Council on Aging and breeding Maltese show dogs.
Betty married Carl W. Rathke in Pratt, Kansas on December 27, 1945. He died in March of 1982. Betty is survived by her son Allen C. Rathke and wife Gerri of Circleville, Kansas, daughters Connie Mayes of Wichita, Kansas, Janie Kirk and husband Dan of Keller, Texas, Paula Rangel and husband Frank Suggs of Hoyt, Kansas, grandchildren Andrew Trimble, Stacey Lewis, Damian Rangel and wife Blanca, Shannon Roberson and husband Matt, Kelly McNab and husband Dan, Sara Olson, Rebecca Rathke, Jason Mendez, Jeff Mendez, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers Glenn Allen, Virgil Allen, Lawrence Allen, Clarence Allen and Robert Allen.
Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Mr. Charles Bradbury of the First United Methodist Church in Emporia will be officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
