Betty Jean Smith, 88, of Emporia died on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Holiday Resort Care Center.
Betty was born on February 21, 1930 in St. Charles, Missouri the daughter of Warren A. and Opal I Hunt Lord. She married Gordon E. Smith on February 18, 1950 in Yuma, Arizona. He died on March 15, 1991 in Tampa, Florida.
Surviving family include: son, Gordon E. Smith, Emporia; daughters, Marsha Diane Smith of Meredosia, Illinois, Rita M. Headrick, Emporia; grandchildren. Michael L. Smith, Paula C. Klopfer, Wendy J. Booker, Betty D. McDannald, Nikki L. Simmons, Russell Robert Smith; great-grandchildren, Samantha Smith, Ericka Smith, Sabrina Smith, Brianna Smith, Coale Klopfer, Clayton Klopfer, Baylee Booker, Brenna Booker, Briley Booker, Ariel Lucas, Alexis Lucas, Parker Simmons, Mikinzi Simmons, Kailey Grover, and Trevor Grover; great-great-granddaughter, Lynnlee Hiland.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Warren Lord II, Ted Lord, Stan Lord, sisters Edna Hoch, Blanche Franklin, granddaughter Susan M. Grover and son-in-law Russell Smith.
Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Cremation is planned with a memorial service 4:00 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2018 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions to Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars or Hand in Hand Hospice can be sent in care of the funeral home.
