Betty J. Worcester, 89, of Lebo, Kansas, and formerly of Emporia, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2011 in Emporia.
Betty Jewel Hollar, the daughter of Golden and Priscilla (Grimmett) Hollar, was born December 1, 1921 in Emporia. She married Robert Worcester on September 14, 1942 in Bastrop, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2003.
Surviving members of the family include: two daughters, Connie Sherwin of Gridley, Kansas and Linda Jean Lamb of Reeds Spring, Missouri; four grandchildren, Amy Moyer of Lebo, Scott O’Mara of Emporia, Lori Johnson of Gridley, and Michael S. Lamb of Reeds Spring; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by: her parents, Golden and Priscilla Hollar; her husband, Robert Worcester; a daughter, JoAnn Newkirk Williamson; and four brothers, Orville Hollar, Don Hollar, Golden J. Hollar and James William Hollar.
She had been a legal secretary for Wade Meyer and then a secretary at Emporia State University for 18 years before retiring in 1987. Once retired, she helped her granddaughter, Amy, with her daycare in Emporia and later in Lebo for the last fifteen years, rocking and caring for many children. She was a former member of the First Christian Church and Miriam Chapter #14 Order of the Eastern Star both in Emporia, and a member of the Emporia Humane Society.
Graveside services will be at the Patio Garden in Memorial Lawn Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 16, 2011. Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the Messiah Lutheran Church will officiate. The family will meet with friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Memorial donations to either the H. Dale Buck Animal Welfare Fund or to the Pre/Play School in Lebo, Kansas may be sent in care of the funeral home.
