Bettye June Hilton

Bettye June Hilton of Emporia, Kansas, died September 9, 2012 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. She was 82.

Bettye June Morgan was born July 13, 1930 in Oswalt, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clarence Elbert “C.E.” & Betty Dosha (Bearden) Morgan.

Bettye June married Elbert Lee “Elb” Hilton on July 16, 1948, in Gainesville, Texas. He died January 19, 1985, in Marietta, Oklahoma.

She is survived by: three daughters, Donna Breshears and husband Larry of Emporia, Becky Eldred and husband Bill of Ardmore, Oklahoma, and Delia Thurman and husband General James Thurman of South Korea; a brother, Walen Morgan of Edmond, Oklahoma; a sister, Maryette Clifton of Killeen, Texas; nine grandchildren, Lanell Watson, Aaron Breshears, Johanna Barrick, Jon Breshears, Becky Lauxman, Jaime Brown, Carey Thomas, Megan Eldred, and Tim Eldred; and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers, and three sisters.

Bettye was the county librarian in Marietta, Oklahoma for 22 years. She also worked as the librarian at Fellowship Baptist Church after moving to Emporia in 1997. She was a member of First Christian Church in Emporia, and the Disciples Women’s Fellowship of the church.

Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 13, 2012, at First Christian Church in Emporia, with a visitation to follow the service. Mr. LeRoy Garnett will be officiating.
