Beverly "Lennie" A. Bain

August 6, 1923 — September 5, 2014

Beverly A “Lennie” Bain, age 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior, September 5, 2014 in Henderson, Nevada, where she had moved to be closer to her daughters.

Lennie was born August 6, 1923 to C.R.O. “Blackie” and Selma (Johnson) Sorrels at Potamo Township, Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Clifford O (Buck) Bain; her parents, Blackie and Selma; brothers, Elmo, Roy and Horace Sorrels; and sisters, Myra Sorenson and Etna Mitchell.

She is survived by her brother, Cy Sorrels of Gurney, Wisconson; her daughters and sons-in-law, Leigh Anna (David) Lavers and Mary Jane (Jerry) Mock both of Henderson, Nevada; her grandchildren, Shannan Miller and David Miller of East Wenatchee, Washington, Michael Lavers of Cypress, Texas and Amy Blankenship of Winchester, California; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and not to be forgotten, all of the honorary sons, daughters, and grandchildren. She touched so many lives.

Lennie’s life was a wonderful journey. She loved to reminisce about growing up in northern Minnesota with her two sisters and four brothers. She moved to the Twin Cities with her sister and best friend, Myra. While there, she worked at the Greyhound Bus Company and White Castle Systems. She would talk of walking miles to work...’ down Hannipen Ave.’ People in Emporia, prior to her move to Nevada, would see her walking every morning rain or shine.

She moved to Emporia in 1954 where she met her husband, Cliff. They were married November 1, 1957 in Annapolis, Maryland.

They ran the Rainbow Cafe on Commercial Street. She loved to give all of the college students a hard time. She was the cook at the Eagles Club for 17 years and was known to fix the best steaks in town. She had a daycare in her home where she helped so many working parents to have a stable environment for their children. Many of those were still a part of her life.

Lennie was a member of the auxiliaries of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2587 (50 years), Ball-McColm Post #5 VFW (30 years), Lowry-Funston Post #1980 (30 years), La Sertoma Club and AARP.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at 11:00 A.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett-Funeral Home in Emporia.
