Beverly Jean Akers

Beverly Jean Akers, 89, of Emporia, Kansas, died on Monday, March 31, 2014 at Holiday Resort in Emporia.

Beverly was born on March 23, 1925 in Emporia, the daughter of Carl William and Lillian Hansen Kopke. She married Jesse Glenn Akers on November 17, 1946 in Topeka, Kansas. He died on May 9, 2010 in Emporia.

Surviving family members includes her daughters, Janet O’Shel and husband Kent of Emporia, and Marsha Akers of Houston, Texas; her granddaughter, Tania Harrington and husband Scot of Emporia, a great-grandson, Chase Harrington of Emporia; many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Ellen Kopke Elson; and a brother, Eldo Kopke.

Beverly was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Memorial Methodist Church in Neosho Rapids, and a member of the Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Ladies Auxiliary, Emporia.

Cremation is planned, with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 4, 2014 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Emporia.
