Beverly Ann Dillman

October 4, 1939 — November 3, 2017

Many people are sad today with the news of the passing of Bev Dillman. Beverly Ann Howard Dillman passed away on November 3, 2017 at Presbyterian Manor, Emporia, KS with her family in attendance.

Beverly was proud of the many boys and girls she taught at the Village Elementary School. She was a very dedicated first grade teacher at the school from 1975 to 1999. She enjoyed talking about the children she had as students who grew up to be good productive members of society. Many children she taught as first graders became doctors, lawyers, teachers, police officers and good parents. Her family wants her former students to know that all are welcome to attend her funeral ceremony and are encouraged to do so.

Education and self-improvement were cornerstones of Beverly’s life. Beverly graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield, KS with a degree in elementary education. Throughout her life she maintained close friendships with her classmates from Southwestern College. Bev later earned a Master’s degree in 1987 from Emporia State University. She was proud that both of her children, David and Loretta, graduated from Kansas State University. Beverly was well read and involved with the Books ‘n Bits book club at First United Methodist Church. She and her husband, Jimmy Dillman, travelled to England, Germany and the Holy Land and throughout the United States.

Beverly married Jimmy Earl Dillman on June 16, 1962. Family and friends, including some from the ceremony in 1962, attended their 50th wedding anniversary celebration at First United Methodist Church in 2012. Beverly was happy that her oldest grand daughter, Megan, wore her wedding dress at the 50th anniversary celebration.

Bev and Jimmy moved from Hutchinson, KS to Emporia in 1972. Throughout her life Beverly was active and involved in the Emporia
community and with her First United Methodist Church family. Beverly enjoyed the people and life in Emporia. She was often president or an officer in the clubs and organizations she belonged to such as,
Cosmopolitan Club, Alpha Delta Kappa teaching sorority, Emporia Retired School Personnel and chapter CG of PEO. After Bev retired she was able to participate more in United Methodist Women organization. She was unit president for four years and served on the Flint Hills District Executive team for six years. She was a Wednesday morning Circle Leader and Books ‘n Bits Circle Leader.

She was born to Charles and Mary Howard in Livingston, Montana on
October 4, 1939. The Howard family later moved to Grand Junction, Co and then to a family homestead in Burrton, KS. Beverly graduated from Burrton HS.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jimmy Earl Dillman, son David Scott Dillman and his wife Carolyn Hayes Dillman, of Ft. Worth, TX granddaughters Megan Dillman, a junior at Baylor University, and Zoe Dillman, and daughter Loretta Joan Dillman Kirker and her husband Thomas Kirker of Kansas City MO and two brothers Lewis Howard, his wife Ti, of Albuquerque, NM and Warren Howard, his wife Barbara of Laurel, MD.
