Beverly V. Spade

Beverly V. Spade, 90, of Emporia, KS passed away on Sunday April 25, 2021.  She was born September 29, 1930 in Council Grove, KS the daughter of Thomas F. and V. Mildred Wheat Wilson of rural Wabaunsee Co.  She attended one-room schools before attending and graduating from Council Grove High School in 1948 as class valedictorian.

She graduated from the Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, KS and was hired as a secretary with a bank in Garden City.  She met Willard Spade of Admire, KS at a dance, and they married January 10, 1954 in Council Grove.  They lived near Admire for several years before building a house in Emporia in 1957.  Beverly worked as an executive secretary for Didde-Glaser, Inc. in Emporia.  She retired after 20 years from Didde-Glaser, Inc. as the National Sales Correspondent for their marketing department.

Beverly was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and Altrusa International.  After her retirement she joined the Newman Hospital Auxiliary where she regularly donated pies to the snack bar.  She was an excellent cook and homemaker and also enjoyed sewing and other crafts.

Beverly was preceded in death by her husband Willard; brothers Alvin, Dale, Daryl, and sister Merriam Huelskamp.  Surviving family includes son Steven (DeAnn) of Manhattan, daughter Sharon Spade of Emporia, and sister Delores Eldridge of Alta Vista.  Grandchildren are Stephanie Spade (Bryan) Leffingwell of Phoenix, AZ, and Geoffrey (Julia) Spade of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren are Ava and Colton Leffingwell, and Scarlett and Wesley Spade.
