Bruce Hoover, Jr. of Emporia died Saturday, July 17, 2010, at The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. He was 79.
  
  
  The son of John Bruce “J.B.”, and Bertha E. (Dill) Hoover, he was born on November 13, 1930 in Hartford, Kansas. He married Joan Canaday on December 24, 1950 at Emporia, Kansas.
  
  
  Bruce is survived by his wife, Joan Hoover, of the home; two sons, Scott B. Hoover of Neosho Rapids, Kansas, and Chris B. Hoover of Olpe, Kansas; one brother, Alton A. Hoover of Emporia, Kansas; one sister, Doxie Keller of Hutchinson, Kansas; seven grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brett A. Hoover; and two brothers, John A. Peres, and William “Bill” A. Peres.
  
  
  Bruce was an engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad for 43 years, and retired in 1992. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Emporia; Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers; Fiddlers & Pickers; and Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion of Emporia. He also entertained at area rest homes for 20 years, singing and playing guitar.
  
  
  The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Rob Clausen will officiate. Internment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m Tuesday at the church.
