Calvin Jacob Werner

Calvin Jacob Werner of Topeka, Kansas, died on July 14, 2025. He was 21 years old.

Calvin was born on August 27, 2003, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Aaron Werner and Esther (Sparks) Umanos. He graduated from Emporia High School.

Surviving family members include his son, Kareem Jacob Werner, and girlfriend, Destinie Johnson of Topeka; mother and step-father, Esther and Warren Umanos of Emporia; father, Aaron Werner of Salina; siblings, Kobe Franklin, Terrick Franklin and Aria Franklin of Emporia; grandparents James and Rosa Sparks of Emporia; aunts and uncle Amanda and Kristi Sparks, Phoenix, Az, James and Nicole Sparks of Topeka, and Melisa Sparks of Emporia. He also had 6 first cousins and a huge extended family including great-aunts, uncles, great-grandparents, and lots of cousins.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Shirley Jean Werner, Tom Werner, and his aunt Jennifer Werner.

Calvin was studying computer programming on his own and had planned to start his own web development company. He built several computers, from top to bottom. He enjoyed playing chess. He loved to compete and won several chess tournaments. His true passion was making music. He taught himself how to play the guitar, bass, and keyboard. Calvin also enjoyed rapping and making beats. He was a natural in every aspect of music that he touched. He was a puzzle master and could solve multiple types of Rubix cubes in seconds. He enjoyed practicing nunchucks and had started teaching his son how to use them as well. Although he loved his various hobbies and had many accomplishments, his greatest passion was being an amazing father.

The family will receive guests Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett. Funeral services are planned for Friday, July 25, 2025, with a viewing between noon and 1:00 pm. Services will begin immediately after 1:00 P.M., at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State Street, Emporia, Kansas, 66801.
