Carl Edward Baker of Emporia, Kansas, died Sunday, November 22, 2015, at his home. He was 84.
Carl was born on July 15, 1931 in Bazaar, Kansas, the son of Edward Tinkham and Bertha Russell Baker. He married Clara Burenheide on September 24, 1955 in Emporia. She died on April 3, 2004 in Emporia. On July 1, 2008 Carl married Verleen Fox in Newkirk, Oklahoma. She survives.
Other surviving family members include: son, Edwin E. Baker of Emporia, Robert N. Baker of Wichita, Kansas, and Bernie C. Baker of Emporia; brother, Robert F. Baker and wife Lou of Garden City, Kansas; sisters, Clara Jo Talkington of Matfield Green, Kansas, and Lequita Joy Nelson and husband Ted of Cassoday, Kansas; grandchildren, Bobbi Sue McDiffett, Carol Jean Whittington, Jacob Lee Baker, and Conner James Baker; great-grandchildren, Xavier K. McDiffett, Andrew T. McDiffett, Jasmine E. McDiffett, Reilly J. Whittington, and Ryan J.E. Whittington; and special friends, Jena Ziegler, and Tracy Talkington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, and daughter, Kathy Marie Baker.
Carl was a lifelong cowboy, farrier, and truck driver. Carl worked as a cowboy in Texas, Oklahoma, and the Flint Hills of Kansas. He loved rodeo, time in the Flint Hills, and time with family and friends. He was a member of the AQHA and Lowry-Funston Post #1980 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Corporal.
Cremation is planned with a visitation Saturday November 28, 2015, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 P.M., Sunday afternoon, November 29, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia.
A memorial has been established to Hand in Hand Hospice, with contributions sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
