Carl Edwin Deweese

September 24, 1931 — November 25, 2015

Carl Edwin DeWeese, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Holiday Resort in Emporia, Kansas, surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, son, and daughter-in-law.

Carl was born September 24, 1931 at the family home in rural Americus, to Warren Dewey DeWeese and Bertha Elda (Klemm) DeWeese. He was the oldest of four brothers. Carl attended the Frost School, a small country school, and graduated from Americus High School in 1949. He lived northwest of Americus where he was a farmer his entire life.

Carl married Diane Rinehart on June 6, 1965, at Arkansas City, Kansas. They have two children, Carol Scott, of Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Mark DeWeese, of Americus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Leslie, Lee, and Tom DeWeese; and his brother-in-law, Dick Rinehart.

Surviving family includes his wife, Diane; daughter, Carol and husband Bill Scott; son, Mark and wife Kelly DeWeese; six grandchildren, Kacey, Katy, Karsen, and Michael DeWeese, and Trevor and Lauren Scott, his much-loved sisters-in-law, Janet DeWeese, Dorothy DeWeese, and Marcia Rinehart; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Carl loved all things farming and was devoted to it all his life. He thoroughly enjoyed tractor shows and having farming-related conversations with anyone who shared his interest. He worked many long, hard hours in the fields, and loved being there. He was also skilled in carpentry and built a house for his family, where Diane still resides.

He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Emporia for almost 50 years, and was also a member of the Lyon County Farm Bureau. He was always happy to lend a hand to anyone in need, but shied away from praise or publicity. In his later days he received much love and support from beloved friends, including Shirley Logsdon, Wayne and Jim Stewart, and Kris and Clint Thomas and family.
