Carl Joseph Hoffmans

Carl Hoffmans, 90, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia, on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

Carl Joseph Hoffmans was born February 5, 1931 in Burlington, KS to Karl Anthony and Marguerite Gorman Hoffmans. Carl graduated from Emporia High School, served in the Army Reserves, and graduated from Kansas State Teachers College.

He married Nancy McGee on June 1, 1957 and is survived by four sons, Kevin (Heather) of Topeka, KS, Andrew (Amy) of Marble Falls, TX, David (Melissa) of Little Rock, AR, and Aaron (Lara) of Columbus, OH; by his brother CB Hoffmans of Henderson, NV, his sister Ann Pyle of Omaha, NE; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two daughters-in-law.

Carl was Director of printing at Emporia State University for 40 years, with 38 of them in the basement of Plumb Hall, and after moving to a new location in Cramer Hall, decided to retire. He was active in Boy Scouts for 25 years, was the Scoutmaster at Sacred Heart Troop 158 for several years and then served as the troop committee chairman, and had 18 Eagle Scouts, including his son Kevin, under his leadership. He also served as Scoutmaster for a group to Valley Forge Jamboree in 1964.

Carl also served on the Camp Alexander Board of Directors, the Didde Campus center finance committee, was a past member of the Emporia Camera Club and recipient of the Emporia State University Service Citation, and a loyal Hornet fan.

The family will receive friends Friday, January 28, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00p.m. Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with graveside service to follow. Cremation has occurred. Memorial contributions can be made to the ESU Foundation c/o Carl J.
