Carl Lee Lucy, 84, Emporia, Kansas, died Monday, March 21, 2011 at Newman Regional Health.
  
  
  Carl was born at Sabula, Missouri on April 27, 1926, the son of Ray and Ollie (Huff) Lucy. He married Dorothy Hitzeman on October 29, 1947 at Saint Louis, Missouri. She survives.
  
  
  Other surviving family members include: three sons, Gary Lucy, and his wife, JoAn of Port Orchard, Washington, James Lucy of Liberty, Missouri, and Wayne Lucy, and his wife, Michelle of Longmont, Colorado; daughter, Janice Burris, Scottsboro, Alabama; brother, Paul Lucy of Farmington, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Jeremy Lucy, Eric Burris, Jordan Lucy, Kim Lucy, Steve Lucy, Carolyn Lucy, Ashley Burris, Nathan Burris, Micaela Ruybal, and Christina Slate; as well as nine great-grandchildren.
  
  
  Mr. Lucy was employed with the Santa Fe Railway Middle Division based in Newton, Kansas. He began with Santa Fe as a locomotive road foreman in 1951, was promoted to locomotive engineer in 1956, and retired in 1987 with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
  
  
  Carl served with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre from 1944 to 1947. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1947 to 1950. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
  
  
  Mr. Lucy was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia.
  
  
  Funeral services will be held at the Messiah Lutheran Church, Emporia, on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier of the church. Interment will be in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
  
  
  The family will receive friends at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM
