Carl Eugene Wingert, 86, of Emporia, Kansas died Friday, June 15, 2018 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.
He was born at home in rural Dunlap, Kansas on September 7, 1931 to John L. & Bertha E. (Estes) Wingert. Carl grew up in the Dunlap Community and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1949. He married the love of his life, Naomi E. Pritchard, on April 6, 1952. They moved to Carl’s grandparents farm west of Emporia when they married. In 2006 they received the Kansas Farm Bureau Century Farm recognition. Carl and Naomi enjoyed 66 wonderful years, working together in partnership on the family farm.
Carl was very involved with many community organizations and clubs. As a youth he was a member of the Sunflower 4-H Club and was a State Award Winner. He continued his love for the 4-H program by becoming a 4-H Community Club Leader for the Model Boosters 4-H Club for over 40 years. He served on the Lyon County Fair Board and was Lyon County Fair Sheep Superintendent for over 50 years. Carl was also a member of Kansas Young Farmers and served as State Vice-President, an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and many other organizations. He loved to share his farm life with the children in the area. He promoted agriculture education by hosting schools and the Farm Bureau Day at the Farm for many years on the family farm.
Carl is survived by his wife Naomi, daughters Teresa (Russ) Conrade, Debbie (Roy) Van Sickle and Denise (Tony) Hanson. Grandchildren: Stacie Miser, Justin (Megan) Van Sickle, Aaron (Ashley) Conrade, Joel (Anna) Hanson, Kelsey (Quin) Vinze, Melanie Griffin and Simon Hanson. Great Grandchildren: Lacey (Mitch) Day, Emily & Wyatt Miser, Bailee, Kasen and Carlee Van Sickle, Braxton Conrade, Sydney & Sawyer Hanson, Madison & Lauren Griffin, Qoy & Qrew Vinze and one due in December, brother John Danny (Jeannie) Wingert, brother in-law Gail Lee and sister in-law Eve Wingert, as well as many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Herman Wingert and sister Joan Lee and grandson in-law Marlin Miser.
His funeral service will be held at
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018
at Grace United Methodist Church. The family will visit with friends
7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
on
Tuesday, June 19th
at Grace United Methodist Church.
