Carmen Tabares, of Emporia, Kansas, died Monday, October 4, 2010, at the Jones Health Care Center, Emporia Presbyterian Manor. She was 89.
Carmen Torres was born March 4, 1921, at Emporia, Kansas, the daughter of Felipe and Socorro M. (Contreras) Torres. She married Antonio Tabares at Emporia, Kansas on March 10, 1942. He died February 17, 2008.
Surviving members of the family include:
Daughter, Veronica Tabares Granado, Emporia, Kansas
5 Sons: Edward Tabares, James Tabares, Arthur Tabares, all of Emporia; Tony Tabares of Chanute, Kansas; and Jeff Tabares of Wichita, Kansas.
Brother, Candido Torres, Emporia, Kansas; and a Sister, Lucy Ramirez of Wichita, Kansas. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; a daughter, Patricia Mendoza; and a son, Robert Tabares. A sister and four brothers also died earlier.
She was a housekeeper at Morse Hall on the Emporia State University campus for a number of years. Mrs. Tabares was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, on Thursday, October 7, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. Father Anthony Williams, Celebrant. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Emporia
The Rosary will be recited at the church Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M.
