Carol Lee Coates

Carol Lee Coates, 83, Emporia, formerly of Topeka, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

Carol Lee Borchert was born May 20, 1937 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Carl and Isal (Harding) Borchert.  She married John Wade Coates on April 20, 1957.  He died September 28, 2014 in Topeka.   Carol is survived by son; Randy Coates, Emporia, Daughter; Carla Coates Thomas, Erie, Kansas, grandchildren; Amy Geymann, Brandon Coates, Amanda Sammons, Annette Thomas, Adam Thomas, and Jennifer Pitts, as well as Twenty great-grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and great-grandchildren; Brooklynn Burnett and James Hensley, Jr.

Mrs. Coates worked in data entry for Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, OK and for the State of Kansas in Topeka.  She was a member of the South Knollwood Baptist Church, Topeka.

She served the Lord faithfully at Bartlesville (OK) Baptist Temple where she taught Sunday School, Children’s Church, played piano, and was a bus volunteer.

Cremation is planned. Due to the present health concerns, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
