Carol Jean Ward Landis, 76, of Emporia, Kansas, died on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Holiday Resort, Emporia.
  
  
  Carol was born December 13, 1937 at Ottawa, Kansas, the daughter of Clifford D. and Thelma R. Ward. She and her parents moved to Emporia in 1940. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1955. She then worked part-time at Citizens National Bank while attending Emporia State University for two years.
  
  
  She married William F. Landis of Kiowa, Kansas in Emporia in 1958. They later divorced. She returned to Emporia in 1977 and worked as the church secretary for First Christian Church. In 1982, she began work as an administrative assistant in the Division of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs at Emporia State University until her retirement in 2006. After retirement she enjoyed volunteering at Holiday Resort, Emporia Public Library, and the Girl Scout Office.
  
  
  She is survived by three sons, Brian Landis and wife Melissa of Lebo, Kevin Landis of Henderson, Nevada, and Darin Landis and wife Tambra of Wichita. Also surviving are brothers, Gary Ward and Joe Ward; sister, Roxie Ward; two granddaughters; and one grandson.
  
  
  She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Don Ward.
  
  
  At Carol’s request, no services are planned. Memorial contributions to SOS, Emporia Rescue Mission, Corner House, or Emporia Friends of the Zoo may be sent in care of the funeral home.
