Catherine A. Brown, Emporia, Kansas, died at the Jones Health Center of Emporia Presbyterian Manor on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. She was 80.
Catherine A. Linehan was born at Topeka, Kansas on January 3, 1931, the daughter of James and Margaret (Wagenroot) Linehan. She married Leonard W. Brown at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia on June 19, 1954. He died in 1975.
Surviving family members include: her two sons, Gary Brown of Kansas City, Kansas, and Terry Brown, Lebo, Kansas; a sister, Pat Tew, Topeka, Kansas; and two grandsons, Nicolas and Zachary Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a grandson, Lenny.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia.
She was a teacher, starting her career in Saffordville, Kansas, and later moving to Emporia High School, where she taught mathematics and geometry until 10 years ago. She taught algebra on a part-time basis at Emporia State University until a year ago. While at Emporia High, she was the sponsor of the Spartan Club.
She was a Kansas Master Teacher, and was a member of the National Education Association, and the Kansas Chapter of the NEA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 31, 2011. The mass will be celebrated by Father Richard Warsnak of the church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
A Prayer Service will be held Sunday evening, January 30, 2011 at 7:00 P.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends the hour before the prayer service.
