Charles D. “Chuck” Gilligan, 71, of Emporia, Kansas, died on October 15, 2012 at his home.
Chuck was born on September 18, 1941 in Emporia, the son of Charles V. and Iona M. Schultz Gilligan. He married Mary Gayle Gorman on September 16, 1961 in Hartford, Kansas. They were divorced. He later married Carol Warrensburg Mahoney on July 9, 1976 in Miami, Oklahoma. She died on December 31, 1991 in Emporia.
Survivors include: his children Kevin and Kim of Emporia; five grandchildren; brother, John L. Gilligan of Olpe, Kansas; sisters, Judy A. Carson of Neosho Rapids, Kansas, and Linda J. Herrick Birk of Gridley, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two adopted children, Patrick and Michael Mahoney Gilligan; a child they raised, Bobby “Snubby” Smith; and a great-grandson.
Chuck worked at Fanestil Meats, and I.B.P., but his main job in life was being a horse trader.
Cremation is planned, with a visitation from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Friday, October 19, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Blakely Cemetery in Madison.
