Charles Calvin Lawson Jr. was born August 10, 1947 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Charles Calvin and Ella (Vogts) Lawson. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, father of three, grandad to one and lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.
As a child Charles enjoyed his mother’s cooking most notably her chicken and noodles. He spent much time learning the art of carpentry from his father. Charles excelled at baseball, billiards, card games and golf.
In 1968 he was drafted into the United States Army. He was sent into combat and promoted in the field to the rank of First Gunnery Sergeant. While in Service to his country Charles suffered extensive wounds and was awarded the Purple Heart and honorably discharged.
Charles returned home a hero and set to work on his career. For a short time he managed a filling station in Emporia but quickly achieved success with his real estate ventures.
While selling real estate Charles was inspired to create, plan and build a successful chain of self-service car washes. At its peak The Lawson Company Auto wash Systems boasted over twenty two locations.
Charles was known for having a twinkle in his eye, a quick witted sense of humor and a constant companion in a glass of iced tea.
Charles is survived by his mother of Emporia, Kansas. Son: Corey Lawson (Jan Lawson) of Hutchinson, Kansas; Son: Caley Lawson of Kansas City, Missouri; Daughter: Kristen Ferate (Anthony Joseph Ferate) of Edmond, Oklahoma; Brother: Russell Lawson (Nancy Lawson) of Emporia, Kansas; Sister: Vicki Price (Warren Price) of Emporia, Kansas; Grandson: Logan Lawson of Hutchinson, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father: Charles Calvin Lawson Sr.
