Charles “Charley” Michael Wyda, 73, of Admire died on Thursday, January 25, 2017 at his home, in his wife’s arms.
Charley was born on December 16, 1943 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania the son of Charles Michael and Anne Pelachah Wyda. He married his “Sweetie”, Sue Ann Kurzen on March 15, 1963 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives at the home.
Surviving family members include: wife. Sue Ann of Admire; son, Charles Michael Wyda, Jr. and wife Peggy of Royse City, Texas; daughters, Christine Wyda of Miller, Michelle Tyson and husband Randy of Burlingame, and Jennifer Weaver and husband Sheldon of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sisters, Patricia Yodlow of Naples, Florida, and Charlotte Wamser of Orange Park, Florida; grandchildren, Jenika Burkert, Sydney Morris, Matthew Burkert, Jarrett Morris, Taryn Morris, Chase Weaver, Brennen Weaver, and Cameron Weaver.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Charley graduated from the Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1968. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, Emporia, where he and his wife served as Youth Leaders for a period of time. Charley worked for over 40 years for USD #251 starting as custodian and bus driver working his way to director of maintenance before retiring on June 29, 2012. Charley also was a Hunters Safety Instructor for many years, educating local youth on firearms and hunting safety. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, handy-man and auto-mechanic who enjoyed shopping and traveling, most importantly he loved spending time with his family, especially his Sweetie & grandchildren.
Cremation is planned with a memorial service 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Jude Children Research Hospital, or Hand in Hand Hospice can be sent in care of the funeral home.
