Charlotte Benjamin passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia. She was 84.
Charlotte was born on October 30, 1939, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Mike Sweeten, Sr. and Marceil (Brooks) Sweeten. She grew up in Wichita and attended Bridgeport School. She then moved to Valley Center and graduated from Valley Center High School in 1958. At the time Charolotte’s family owned the first TV set in the neighborhood.
Charolotte married Roy Lee Benjamin in her parent’s home in Wichita, Kansas on June 8, 1958. They had four children. Roy died on January 26, 2013, in Emporia, Kansas.
She is survived by three daughters, Sandy (Dave) Fernandez, Christina Lieurance, Julie Brammell and daughter-in-law Mary Benjamin; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Lee, son Richard (Tex) Benjamin, parents, brothers Mike, Jr. and Johnny, granddaughter Trista and husband Kyle Smith.
Charlotte worked in her family’s neighborhood grocery store which her parents owned. After marrying Roy Lee she was a homemaker. She enjoyed coyote hunting and traveling to fishing tournaments with her husband. She was also employed by Dillon’s for 17 years working in the Floral and Produce Departments, Delivery and Price Checker before finally retiring.
A private family service will be held with burial in the Benton Cemetery in Benton, Kansas. Memorial contributions to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo or the Dolly Parton Imagination Library can be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, P.O. Box 175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
