Cheryl J. Combes, Emporia, Kansas, passed away at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the age of 80.
Cheryl J. Robinson was born August 12, 1931 in Lebo, Kansas, the daughter of Earl K. and Oma (Longhoffer) Robinson. She married Ray T. Combes, Jr. at Oakley, Kansas on May 8, 1954. He died January 11, 2006 in Olpe, Kansas.
Surviving family members are: daughters, Sheila J. Burenheide, Emporia, and Marcella L. Trear, Olpe; son, Randall T. Combes, Emporia; sisters, Earlene Green, Pearcy, Arkansas, and Trudy Orender, Lebo; 11 grandchildren, Brian Combes, Chris Burenheide, J.R. Trear, Bridget Monroe, Kelly Belton, Bobby Johnson, Becky Ballinger, Angela Combes, Travis Combes, Anna Trear, and Roger Combes; and 18 great-grandchildren, Grayson Combes, Hunter & Talon Combes, Camden & Brooke Monroe, Reece Johnson, Ava & Corbin Tyson, Daylen Ballinger, Taverly Trear, Chase Henton, Elias, Ignatius, & Dymphna Belton, Evan & Tehya Osage, and Caitlin & Jethro Burenheide.
Mrs. Combes was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Gary G. Combes and Kevin D. Combes; and granddaughter, Beth Ann Trear.
Mrs. Combes was a member of the Red Hat Society in Lebo, and the American Quarter Horse Association.
She was a cook for several years during the 70’s for USD #253, Emporia, and later was a bus driver for fourteen years for South Lyon County School District #252 (Olpe).
Funeral services will be held at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Pastor Jeannie Jensen, First United Methodist Church, will conduct the service. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lebo.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening, January 13, 2012 from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
