Claude Lee Harris, Emporia, Kansas, died at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the age of 86.
Claude was born May 1, 1926 in Caddo County, Oklahoma, the son of Jesse Henry and Nancy Ellen (Buffer) Harris. He married Mary I.”Jean” Marbut at her parents’ home in Lyon County, Kansas on December 16, 1953. She survives.
Other family members include two daughters, Dana J. Harris, Oak Point, Texas, and Joni L. Hensley, Emporia; two grandchildren, Johnathan Hensley and Erin Carlson; and a great-grandson, Michael Tabora.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Harris worked for the City of Emporia, retiring from the water treatment plant in October of 1983.
Claude was a member of the West Side Baptist Church, Emporia. During World War II, Mr. Harris served in the United States Army with Company I of the 307th Infantry. He was a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion.
Funeral services will be at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. The service will be conducted by Pastor Lee Hoskins. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, with military honors by Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion and Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening, August 14, 2012, from 7:00 until 8:00 P.M.
