Cleo E. “Bud” Grimmett, 85, Emporia, Kansas, died Monday morning, February 11, 2013 at Via Cristi Saint Francis Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.
Cleo Grimmett was born January 13, 1928 in Emporia, the son of Ernest and Lola (Killion) Grimmett. He married Anna Mae Smith in Miami, Oklahoma on October 15, 1971.
He is survived by his beloved wife and caregiver, Anna; daughter, Shirley Williams, Salina, Kansas; brother, William Grimmett, Webb City, Missouri; sister, Esther Stubbs, Los Altos, California; four grandchildren, Bassem and Timothy Salaymeh, Lonnie Williams, and Crystal McKellips; as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Grimmett was preceded in death by his daughter, Patty Nelson, who passed away in the spring of 2012.
Bud first worked as a ranch hand in the Osage City area, and then worked with his father and brother at Grimmett Construction, as a stone mason and bricklayer, and later worked on his own. He was responsible for a great deal of the masonry and stonework in the Emporia area before he retired in 2004. He and his wife enjoyed raising cattle and being outdoors.
Mr. Grimmett was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Emporia.
Graveside services will be held at Blakely Cemetery, north of Madison, Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 2:00 PM. The service will be conducted by Mr. Bob Grimmett.
A memorial has been established with the Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Service, Emporia. Contributions may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
