Cleo Clifford Jacob, 94, of Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia, Kansas, and formerly of rural Americus, Kansas, died Tuesday, June 05, 2012 at Newman Regional Health in Emporia.
Cleo was born December 12, 1917, the son of Joe and Coral (Batch) Jacob in the same house he lived in for 87 years in rural Americus. Cleo attended Wheeler District #42 schoolhouse for elementary school, Emporia High School, and Kansas State Teachers College, majoring in Industrial Arts. He was a farmer and also worked as a delivery driver for Spic ‘N Span Cleaners for 10 years. He served on the board of the Cottonwood/Neosho Watershed Committee, Rural Water District #5, and Federal Land Bank.
Cleo married Ruth Long, his wife of 69 years, in her parents’ living room in Freeport, Kansas on June 20, 1943. She survives of the Holiday Resort Care Center.
He is also survived by a daughter, Cynthia Maxwell of Emporia; a grandson, Ryan Maxwell of Kansas City, Kansas; and a granddaughter, Sherri Maxwell of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Strube.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 8, 2012 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia. Pastor Rob Clausen of the First Baptist Church in Emporia will be officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
