Cleve Cook passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the Congregational Home in Brookfield, Wisconsin, where he lived with his wife Hildred. He was 100 years old and died just eight days prior to his 101st birthday.
Cleve was a lifelong resident of the Emporia area, although he and Hildred have spent the last few years in Wisconsin near their sons and family. He spent his entire working career in the agricultural industry in Kansas. He was involved with farming as well as being a partner in Trusler-Cook Grain Co. and the successor company Cleve Cook Grain Co. He was active in many State of Kansas agriculture trade associations, a past President of the Kansas Grain Dealers Assoc., as well as being the Kansas Certified Seed Grower of the Year in 1973.
After retiring, Cleve continued his passion for farming by having a large garden every summer, and was a regular participant at the Emporia Farmers Market. He was also very active in the community, a 50+ year member of the Emporia Lyons Club, and a member and past board member of the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Hildred (Brickley) Cook, his two sons, Robert Cook and granddaughter Carey, and Roy and Teena Cook and granddaughters, Gretchen and Rachel. He is also survived by his brother, William Cook; and two sisters, Marge Gunn and Erma Muster.
The Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 in the C.D. Longs Chapel at First United Methodist Church, Emporia. Private family inurnment will be held at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
