Dale Martin Edmiston, 92, of Americus, Kansas, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at his home in Americus.
Dale was born December 15, 1920 in Americus, the son of Arthur & Gussie Edmiston. He was born on his farm, which was his grandfather’s homestead, and lived in the 72 butler School district and graduated from Americus Rural High School in 1940. He was a dairyman and farmer, and he lived on the farm all of his life until he moved to town in 1995.
Dale received a Century Farm Award, and was a member of Americus United Presbyterian Church since 1940, where he served as an usher, trustee, and session member. He was an usher for over 80 years. He loved wood working and made many things for his family and friends.
Dale married June Jones on April 20, 1951 in Saxman, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 5, 1994 in Americus, Kansas. He then married Bessie Phillips on April 13, 1995 in Emporia, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 6, 2011.
Dale is survived by: son, John Edmiston of Emporia; daughters, Nancy Edmiston of Topeka, Kansas, Cindy Winn and husband Richard of Leroy, Kansas, Jonita Lathrop and husband Jerry of Springfield, Missouri; stepdaughters, Ann Spade and husband Leroy of Admire, Kansas, Betty Brown and husband Lloyd of Americus; 12 grandchildren, Tim Edmiston of Topeka, Derrick Bailey of Oregon, Karren Bailey of Kansas, Elizabeth Lathrop of Springfield, Devery Lathrop of Springfield, Jay Lathrop of Springfield, Alex Edmiston of Americus, Jeffery Wolfe and Wife Carmen of Emporia, Krystyn Winn of Leroy, Kaytlynn, Trey and Nathan Winn of Leroy; 11 step-grandchildren, Mike Spade and wife Deb of Holton, Kansas, Steven Spade and wife Dana of Byron, Oklahoma, Diane Dysart and husband Fred of Netawaka, Oklahoma, Sherri Spade of Mulvane, Kansas, Marsha Mitchell and husband Roy of South Boston, Virginia, Debbie Fields and Husband Roger of Emporia, Deneise Peak of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, Lisa Buchman and husband Doug of Council Grove, Kansas, John Brown of Americus, Jim Brown of Cedervale, Kansas, Scott Brown and wife Shanda of Colby, Kansas; three great-grandchildren, Levi Hagger, Beth Edmiston and Tory Edmiston; 30 step-great-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Americus United Presbyterian Church in Americus. Pastor Brenda Ulrich of the church will be officiating. Interment will follow in Americus Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home in Emporia.
